Lily's Journey: How Child Therapy Helped Her Overcome Anxiety and Build Confidence [StoryTime]

The following story is intended to be read with your child before they begin therapy, to help them feel more comfortable with the process.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Lily who was having a hard time at school. She was often anxious and worried, and her parents didn't know what to do to help her. That's when they decided to take her to see a child therapist.

When Lily first arrived at the therapist's office, she was nervous and unsure of what to expect. But the therapist greeted her with a warm smile and invited her to sit down in a cozy chair. The therapist explained to Lily that they were going to play some games and do some activities together to help her feel better.

Lily was still a little hesitant, so the therapist took the time to explain what therapy was and how it could help her. She told Lily that therapy was a safe and confidential place where she could talk about her thoughts and feelings without worrying about anyone else judging her.

The therapist also explained that they would work together to come up with ideas to help Lily feel better and cope with her anxiety. They would play games and do activities to help her practice these skills and build her confidence.

Lily started to feel a little more comfortable with the idea of therapy. The therapist showed her some of the toys and games they could play together, like coloring books, puzzles, and board games. Lily picked out a few things she liked and started to play.

The therapist asked Lily some questions about her feelings and what was making her anxious. She listened carefully and asked follow-up questions to help Lily express herself. As they played and talked, Lily started to feel more relaxed and open.

After the session was over, the therapist talked to Lily's parents and shared some ideas for how they could support her at home. She also gave Lily some ideas for things she could do on her own to help her feel better.

Over time, Lily continued to see the therapist and make progress. She started to feel more confident and less anxious at school. She even started to look forward to her therapy sessions and the chance to play and talk with her therapist.

In the end, Lily learned that therapy was a safe and helpful place where she could get support and learn new skills. She felt more comfortable expressing her thoughts and feelings and knew that she had someone to turn to if she ever needed help again.
